Berimbau Viola – Biriba

Checkout the video above and learn how to string your berimbau.

Our Berimbau Viola is hand made in Salvador Bahia, and ship locally from Austin, TX. The Berimbau Viola generally has the thickest verga (berimbau stick), the smallest cabaça (gourd), and produces the highest tone of the bateria.

Before we ship an order, your berimbau will be strung, tuned, and tested to insure that you receive the best paired cabaça and verga possible 🙂

The Berimbau Viola comes complete with :
– 1 Verga (approximately 66 in. / 168 cm. tall)
– 1 Cabaça Viola (approximately 15 in / 38 cm. in circumference)
– Arame (wire)
– 1 Caxixi
– 1 Baqueta de tucum

– 1 Dobrão

**PLEASE NOTE** If you are unfamiliar with how to string your Berimbau, we recommend purchasing the stringing and tuning service (1 per berimbau) to ensure your berimbau is tuned. If desired, you’ll need to request the berimbaus be shipped strung as this is not standard practice. A berimbau should be strung while playing, and unstrung when not. Although shipping this way is not recommended, we are happy to assist those who have never strung one before.

Our Berimbau Viola is hand made in Salvador Bahia, and ships locally from Austin, TX. Each Berimbau verga (stick) is made of Biriba, has been hand sanded and lightly varnished in order to preserve the quality and integrity of the instrument.

The top of the verga has been capped with a thick, circular piece of leather to secure the arame when stringing the berimbau viola. The Cabaça (gourd) has also been hand sanded, lightly varnished, and shaped in order to produce the best quality of sound possible for each gunga, medio, and viola.

Please note that all of our berimbaus are hand made in Salvador, Bahia Brazil and may have varying degrees of imperfections which make each instrument unique.

Please visit our Berimbau Lessons page to learn how to play each toque.
