We, the members of Mandingueiros dos Palmares (MdP), are a community-based organization dedicated to the practice, development, and sharing of the art of capoeira. We are athlete-artists who train not only for our individual development but also for our group mates’ through Capoeira. As members of a community, it is not enough to be strong for just ourselves; we are strong for each other.
Mestre Chuvisco, our founding member and leader, says, “Capoeira is for everyone.”
In addition to holding regular classes, we offer instruction at no cost to students who cannot otherwise gain access to Capoeira. We believe it is part of our duty as capoeiristas (Capoeira practitioners) to share our art with those who wish to benefit from it regardless of means.
Mestre Chuvisco founded the Associação de Capoeira Mandingueiros dos Palmares (Capoeira MdP) in 1977 in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. In Massachusetts, Mestre Chuvisco has continued the work of sharing the art of Capoeira to a variety of students in a variety of backgrounds. In recognition of his dedication to Capoeira throughout the decades, Mestre Chuvisco was granted the rank of “Grão Mestre” (or Grandmaster) in December of 2017 surrounded by Capoeira masters, students, and family from Massachusetts around the globe. Today, as it has been throughout the decades, Mestre Chuvisco continues to teach, practice, and share the art of Capoeira to all who would attend his classes.
