My name is Luiz Rocha, well-known as Grande in the world of Capoeira. I was born in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. I started practicing Capoeira in December 1983, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

My first Master/teacher was Grão Mestre Dunga, president of “Associação de Capoeira Cordão de Ouro Eu Bahia – A Senzala”. I received my certificate of Capoeira Professor in June, 1997.

I practiced Capoeira at “Associação de Capoeira Cordão de Ouro Eu Bahia – A Senzala” for 14 years. I started practicing Capoeira Angola in December, 1996 with Master João Bosco at Grupo de Capoeira Angola “Eu Sou Angoleiro…” in Belo Horizonte, Brazil .

I moved to the United States of America in April, 1998. Since then I have been practicing Capoeira Angola with Grand Master João Grande.

In November of 2013 I received the title of Mestre of Capoeira from Grão Mestre Dunga. I couldn’t be more honored.
